Prenatal Pilates

During pregnancy your body goes through a great many changes,  your stomach muscles are stretched and can become weak, your pelvic floor muscles tend to stretch and move lower in your pelvis and your posture changes considerably, as a result of these changes you may find your back or pelvis starting to ache and you are more prone to injury.

Pilates targets all the areas that become weak during pregnanacy, it focuses on core abdominal strength and on maintaining that all important pelvic floor connection.

The exercises are specifically designed to maintain a good posture and to ensure that your body stays fit and healthy during this changing time.

In each session we will also look at how breath control and relaxation techniques can help during birth.

I recently attended a course on Pilates during the ante/postnatal period, it was taught by Judy Difiore, one of the foremost experts on ante/postnatal exercise and has been accredited by The Royal College of Midwives.

Other benefits from pilates include:-

  • Maintaining fitness
  • Weight managment
  • Improving fatigue levels
  • Achieve a sense of wellbeing
